Normally, I use these email newsletters to delve into the deeper recesses of my mind (usually a back alley found through a fire door in my cerebellum) and freely go all willy-nilly into a crazed frenzy of pathetic prose, that while is informative, often surprises me that you folks read it (You do, don’t you?).
This week is going to be a bit different.
Oh sure, I had crafted a rambling diatribe on why the city of Houston pronounces their name wrong (even having interviewed Anjelica Huston and a few sketchy folks from SoHo), but recent events in our ever changing climatology have given me pause.
Of course, we still will get together at South Street this Sunday for the 1 PM kick-off. There will be a Tex-Mex Wing Special and our beloved Bilsner.
Of course, we will have prize drawings for a James Cook autographed helmet, gift cards, and a Bills flask. We will even have our first (free) kids raffle with the chance of winning a Funco Bills dude.
All will remain the same….but as Patrick pointed out this week on The Facebook, our fellow chapters have issued a cry for help after the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.
This note came from the Asheville, NC chapter:
Hey y’all- this is Bree, reaching out to y’all from Asheville NC. As many of you know, Asheville and the surrounding communities are down for the count. People without food, water, and other essentials. Although food and water is being distributed, it’s not enough.
Our backers are desperate and need to self-evacuate.
Is there anyone within a 2-5 hour radius that can provide a room- if even for a night or 2 -and provide shelter to some of our desperate bills individuals and families.
Or more so- be able to meet them just outside of Asheville and transport them to shelter??

This a war zone and people need help. The media makes this look nice, even when they talk about how horrible this disaster is…. That is putting it lightly.
Personally- I don’t think it’s wise to travel to the area unless you come with your own gas, food, water, and anything else you might need.
What we need is for people to have water and shelter.
