‘Twas gameday in Buffalo, cold even with sun,
The gametime had changed – “It’s 4:25, not 1!”
The jerseys were hung in the lockers with care,
While Josh’s shorts showed legs that were bare.
The CBBB Mafia tailgated, raffle tickets in hand,
“Who’ll win the big prize?” asked a shivering man;
Coach McDermott, looking stern in his vest,
Had just finished telling Josh, “Please wear some pants, it’s for the best”.
The time change meant waiting through most of the day,
But more hours for Tom & Jerrys, the fans say!
When out in the lot there arose such a clatter,
A fan jumped through a table – it didn’t matter.
Away to the field Josh ran like a moose,
His accuracy today suspiciously loose;
The snow on his shoulders made quite a sight,
As the Patriots celebrated their unlucky plight.
When what to my eyes should appear,
But Allen hurdling defenders without any fear;
With a wild-eyed expression, arm like a cannon,
He launched the ball forth in a manner quite random.
More reckless than Brady, more wild than Mahomes,
He scrambled around making linebackers groan;
“Now, Knox! Now, Keon! Now, Cook and Dalton!
Someone please catch it, before I start vaultin’!”
From the pocket he dashed, then leapt over a wall,
The refs threw their flags, but he didn’t care at all;
He sprinted through snowdrifts piled up to his waist,
While our raffle winners rejoiced in good taste.
Then quick as a flash, he spun round with the ball,
And threw it backhand through a snow squall;
The crowd held their breath as it spiraled so high,
They gasped as it somehow found Davis on the fly.
The stadium erupted in chaos and cheers,
While Cville Billsners splashed over their ears;
Allen flexed for the crowd, his shorts still intact,
Though frostbite was surely a medical fact.
And I heard him exclaim as the sun started to set,
“Best four-twenty-five game that you’ll ever get!
Who needs a warm jacket when the Pats you’ve just beat
And now shall celebrate long at South Street!“
Happy Holidays and stuff,
BRIAN
